Just two games this week using the Convoy scenario. In this battle the attackers have three treasure tokens assigned to different units and must attempt to get them off the opposite corner of the table, scoring 2 points for each. The defender must try to rout the treasurer carriers, scoring 2 points for each.
Game 1 - Irish (defenders) vs Saxons (attacker)
This game is potentially very good for the Saxons as they are mostly heavy / light spearmen and so are happy being attacked. The Irish are a more attacking army and so this may not be too bad for them either.
Saxon attackers |
The Saxons formed a solid mass with the treasurer carriers at the rear. Unable to enter rough terrain their forces split either side of a field as the Irish converged from three sides.
Irish Warriors and Gallowglass |
The Irish skirmishers weakened a treasurer carrying unit before some Irish warriors finished them off. The other side of the village the Gallowglass were able to pin the Saxons back and attack the other two treasure carriers.
The result was 6 - 0 to the Irish.
Game 2 - Arthurian / Franks (defenders) vs Anglo-Norman (attackers)
Arthurian defenders |
Frankish defenders |
The attackers were fearful of being sniped and so took a long route through the dense terrain to limit the defenders fields of fire.
Anglo-Norman attackers |
AN skirmishers |
So the defenders withdrew their archers to cover the flanks of the heavy infantry blocking the exit path.
As the attackers approached the defenders were able to inflict some casualties. We then realized that there was an issue in the scenario - treasure carrier can nt launch attacks and the way was completely blocked. So we tweaked things to allow then to Attack on 8+.
Defenders are well set |
The weakened attacker launched several assaults at the Roman and Frankish infantry but bounced off. It was agreed the attackers could not break through so it was a 6-0 win for the defenders.
The final attack |
