The campaign starts with a series of encounter games in the neutral territory between the sides, which we unoriginally are calling North and South for now. I'm playing Ottomans as part of the Northern forces.
Game 1 - Polish vs Wars of Religion, Determination
Both sides are looking to get as many troops as possible over the half way line. The WOR units had more infantry and generally a bit tougher so they tried to push up to the middle and hold the line, while the Poles tried to attack with their superior cavalry.
Polish winged hussars |
A fierce struggle in the west saw both sides lose cavalry units with the Poles coming out ahead as their infantry killed the final unit of Cuirassiers. The Poles made repeated charges into the WOR lines but were unable to break them.
Hussars attack into the enemy |
Both sides could have won but the WOR edged it in the last turn. WOR win
Game 2 - Ottomans vs WOR, Fields of Glory
This was a simple kill scenario with both sides looking to cause the maximum damage to the enemy. The Ottomans advanced on either flank with all their cavalry massed in the east. The WOR attacked up the middle with their more fighty infantry.
A series of WOR attacks against the Ottoman infantry were repulsed whilst the Ottoman horse was able to outflank the WOR. The superior WOR mounted resisted for a while but when attacked in the flank eventually were forced to retreat.
Janissaries hold off the WOR attack |
Ottoman win in turn 5
The decisive cavalry action |
Game 3 - Landsknecht vs WOR, capture the land
The WOR rallied and managed to grab the central feature before their cavalry eventually managed to also secure the hill on the Germans side right at the death.
WOR take the ruins |
WOR win
So this leaves the Southern forces in the lead as we go into turn 2.
